3/4TC & 3/4WM Classes

03.07.20

In the 3 / 4 unit we have been looking at the Earth’s surface in Science. We have studied rocks and soil and learnt about the tectonic plates and Pangea (when all the continents were connected). We have been looking at erosion and droughts, fire and floods. We are currently doing some research projects on the worst floods in Australia. We have extended this throughout our English lessons by looking at a couple of books written by Jackie French, Fire and Flood. We have written our own narratives based on flooding and unpacked the book Flood, looking at personification and how the text and illustrations both tell a part of the story.

In Maths we have been learning about measurement, including time, both analogue and digital. We have been weighing things, estimating the weights of different items around the classroom and looked at different containers and their capacity of liquids. We are currently looking at place value and are learning how important it is to get this correct.

Year 3/4 have been gaining an appreciation that God is revealed through creation and learnt about our responsibility to care for our environment and each otherThey have written thoughtful prayers and illustrated his thoughts about God’s creation. They explored different creation stories in the bible and from different cultures. They enjoyed their liturgy with Mr Mulcahy outside on the oval. They have learnt about the importance of Pentecost as the birthday of the Church and the symbols associated with it.

In Art we have explored different Aboriginal techniques such as x-ray drawing and dot painting. We have learnt about the importance of The Dreaming for Aboriginal people ‘to see and understand the law’. It is the way Indigenous Australians pass on important knowledge, cultural values and belief systems to their future generations. We have recognised Reconciliation Week to build an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and the need to acknowledge the sufferings they have endured.
